BUILDING IN BUSHFIRE PRONE AREAS - Thursday March 10
Brian O’Hehir is a bushfire consultant, with many years of experience understanding all aspects of bushfires and how to live in a bushfire-prone environment. He operates his own business Bush Fire Works.
Brian is the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Busselton Naturalists Club on Thursday March 10.
His talk is entitled: Building in Bushfire Prone Areas – balancing bushfire risk against biodiversity conservation. He will discuss the changing situation with fire from a number of perspectives and will focus on finding some middle ground that will give owners and volunteers a better chance at succeeding with protecting their assets, including their environmental assets.
Brian offered to talk to the Club after the City of Busselton last year announced it was being required by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to implement conditions around dwellings that the Club believed were onerous and short-sighted, focusing only on the issue of fuel reduction when so many other actions should be considered by landowners.
The meeting will commence at 7.30pm in the main hall of the Busselton Senior Citizens Centre, 22 Peel Terrace.
The meeting is open to the public and is free to attend, although a gold coin donation to cover hall hire costs will be appreciated.
