Camping Excursion to Lake Mealup near Mandurah over March Long Weekend
In 2019, the Club is holding three excursions to completely different parts of the state.
Over the March long weekend from Friday March 1 to Monday March 4, the Club will be camping at Lake Mealup which lies just south of Mandurah. The property contains two protected wetlands and carries a large area of natural bushland, all of which will be explored during the course of the 3 night/4 day excursion.
As well, members of the Friends of Lake McLarty will take us on a half day tour of this nature reserve and we’ll also be making a visit to sites within the Peel/Harvey to look for waterbirds.
Inteersted people can also assist in installing four floating islands which have been purchased by the Lake Mealup Preservation Society to provide floating nesting sites for swans, ducks and other waterbirds.
Toilet facilities available on the property but campers must bring their own water supplies. Camper vans, caravans, tents and camper trailers are all suitable for this excursion and 4WD vehicles are not necessary.
Contact Club president Bernie Masters to register your interest and obtain details on where to meet and when.
NOTE: This excursion is SUBJECT TO SUITABLE WEATHER – It will be CANCELLED IF any part of the weekend is assessed as having an EXTREME OR CATASTROPHIC FIRE DANGER.
