August Excursion: Cape Naturaliste Whales & Seals Walk
Date & Meeting place: Sunday, August 16
Meet Malcolm Jennings at 9 am at the ECU car park for carpooling,
(38 Peel Terrace, Busselton). From there, it will be a 30min drive to Cape Naturaliste. Alternatively, meet at the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse carpark at 9.45 am.
Walk Details:
Lead by Harry & Linda de Vries.
This will be a 5 km easy-medium grade loop walk (approx. 2 hours). The walk winds along Cape Naturaliste cliffs, offering views of the Indian Ocean and includes viewpoints.
At the Seal Lookout, New Zealand Fur Seals can be seen basking on the rocks below or playing in the waves. Keep an eye out for passing whales — some have been sighted already this season.
The surrounding vegetation provides important habitat for a wide variety of native birds and reptiles, and wildflowers are beginning to appear.
