November Meeting – The Broadwater Wetlands (expired event)
Speaker, Dr Robyn Paice: The Broadwater Wetlands – What’s Happening in a Changing Landscape
Date: Thursday, November 13
Time: 7.30 pm
Place: Busselton Senior Citizens Centre
Dr Robyn Paice is an aquatic ecologist who loves all things water and wetlands. Robyn is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management and Monitoring at Edith Cowan University. She has spent more than 25 years working on the subject of rivers, lakes and wetlands across the south-west of WA, spanning roles in state and local government, research, and environmental consulting. Robyn is also the Chairperson of the Board of Busselton Water.
The Broadwater Wetlands, west of Busselton, are part of a beautiful chain of seasonal wetlands that make this area so special. These wetlands have changed over time due to farming, housing and now climate change.
This talk is open to the public.
Robyn’s presentation will cover:
- Why the Broadwater Wetlands are so important for wildlife and our community
- How they support everything from waterbirds to the endangered Western Ringtail Possum
- What’s happening with water quality, hydrology and nutrient cycling
- And what we can all do to help look after them for the future
Come along to learn more about the local wetlands, the challenges they face, and the simple steps we can take to keep them thriving.
